Dutch spot Olympic berth in men's team sprint
(BEIJING, December 7) -- The Dutch trio Theo Bos-Teun Mulder-Tim Veldt overtook the French team of Gregory Bauge, Pervis Francois, and Arnaud Tournant in the men's team sprint final of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics Friday to carry the day at the newly built Laoshan Velodrome.
Although the French team had slight lead ahead of the Dutch in the first lap, they were overtaken in the second lap by a much larger margin and failed to catch up in the final lap.
With this win, the Netherlands improved their position to the second place with 18 points in the world cup standings, one point behind Team Toshiba from Australia.
In the race for the bronze medal, the Brits disappointed Team Toshiba with the same scenario as the French against the Dutch.
The Beijing event marked the second leg of the four-leg world cup with Sydney being the first. The third leg will be held in Log Angeles from January 18 to 20 and the fourth in Ballerup, Demark from February 15 to 17, 2008.
