Day 2 Roundup: Great Britain 2 golds, China 2 bronzes
(Beijing, December 8) The second-day competitions of the "Good Luck Beijing" 07-08 UCI Track Cycling World Cup "Classics" came to an end this evening as Great Britain collected 2 golds out of 7 and host team China harvested 2 bronzes.
In the women's 500m individual time trial final, Cuba's Lisandra Guerra Rodriguez won the gold medal with 52.950km/h. Bimona Krupeckaite of Lithuania settled for runner-up with 52.254km/h and Natallia Tsylinskaya of Belarus placed third with 52.030km/h.
In the men's team pursuit, Edward Clancy, Stephen Cummings, Thomas Geraint and Paul Manning of Great Britain took the title by beating New Zealand in the final. The Netherlands took the bronze easily due to Denmark' DNF in the third-place decider.
Marianne Vos of Team DSB won the women's points race while Cuba's Yoanka Gonzalez Perez had to be content with the second place with the identical score of 12. Katherine Bates of Team TMT got the bronze medal with 9.
British rider Chris Hoy pocketed the title of the men's keirin event, ahead of silver winner Arnaud Tournant of France and bronze winner Teun Mulder of the Netherlands.
China won its first medal at the tournament in the men's kilometer individual time trial thanks to Li Wenhao's bronze with a result of 56.513km/h in the final. Francois Pervis of France won the title with 58.037km/h and Yevgen Bolibrukh of Ukraine placed second with 57.194km/h.
In the women's team sprint final, Yvonne Hijgenaar and Willy Kanis of the Netherlands defeated their French counterparts to win the gold while China collected another bronze by beating Italy.
In the last final of the day in the men's scratch, Michael Friedman ranked first with Walter Fernando Perez of Argentina second and Tim Mertens of Belgium third.
